The Province of Gyeongsangbuk-do(Gyeongsangbuk-do) along with its largest city Pohang is making a move by concentrating on the secondary battery industry as the next-generation growth sector for the region with other relevant hi-tech industries.
The City of Pohang(Pohang), the designated place of Gyeongsangbuk-do Battery Regulation Free Special Zone and the one of the largest base in Korea in terms of the production volume of cathode materials, is supplying every cycles of secondary battery business from precursors to valuable metal recycling.
Gyeongsangbuk-do has attracted the domestic and overseas key players in the industry including Ecopro Group, POSCO FutureM, CNGR, SK Specialty, and LG Chem. In particular, with its designation as a national strategic industry specialized zone for secondary battery industries, Pohang in Gyeongsangbuk-do had completed the largest value chain for the cathode materials by recycling from wasted batteries to raw materials, precursor materials, and cathode materials.
