Alfen Smart Transformer Substations for Dutch Solar Park

Industry News – Tuesday, June 23, 2020

At the order of PFALZSOLAR, Alfen supplied the new solar park Borssele with high-voltage substations and transformer substations as well as low-voltage distribution systems.

The energy production company Elektriciteits-Productiemaatschappij Zuid-Nederland (EPZ), project owner and operator of the adjacent Borssele nuclear plant, had tasked PFALZSOLAR with the installation of 60,000 solar panels, resulting in a total capacity of 21 MWp. The substations supplied by Alfen are suited for the latest technology in solar installations while the distribution systems were developed specifically for this operation.

Jürgen Hampel, Head of Sales and Development of Large-Scale Projects at PFALZSOLAR says: "Alfen is a company that has earned its stripes with regard to knowledge and expertise in smart grid solutions. For decades they have proven that experience and continuous innovation ultimately leads to the efficient and high-quality solutions offered today and that are particularly suited for projects such as the solar park in Borssele. The tailored solutions and pleasant long-standing relationship with Alfen makes them the ideal partner for this project."

Because of the special conditions of the Netherlands, with the sun usually shining when it’s not windy and vice versa, the Borssele solar park is combined with wind turbines of a total capacity of 20MWp that are to be installed in 2020 and 2021.

"We are happy to have a partner like PFALZSOLAR and their ambition to realise solar parks in the Netherlands. With our tailored solutions and expertise on the Dutch market we are happy to help PFALZSOLAR in implementing their projects on time and in accordance with the Dutch standards. PFALZSOLAR is an esteemed partner and together we already realised multiple solar parks. This project is another great example of a sustainable energy project where Alfen provides an important contribution to the energy transition,” adds Alfen sales manager smart grid solutions, Serge Kraaijeveld.
