DESCRIPTION:The importance of battery storage in Germany is steadily increasing. Renewable energy sources now account for around 60 percent of the electricity mix\, and further expansion without additional flexibility options - especially energy storage - is unlikely to be feasible. As feed-in from wind and photovoltaic systems continues to grow\, situations of electricity surplus and shortage are becoming more frequent. These imbalances are still partly offset by power plants that run on fossil fuels. Battery storage systems can help balance these fluctuations\, make better use of renewable energy\, and operate economically by leveraging price differences in the electricity market while providing essential grid services. In this session\, we will explore real-world case studies to discuss why large-scale battery storage is an indispensable building block for a stable and climate-friendly energy system. The goal is to demonstrate that battery storage is not only beneficial but essential for integrating renewable energy into the grid. This session is aimed at grid operators\, project developers\, and operators of storage and renewable energy systems\, utilities and municipal energy providers\, investors\, as well as representatives from policy\, regulation\, industry\, and energy consulting who are interested in the role of battery storage in the future energy system.
